Cool Communities

Creating Energy Efficient Communities

Background Information

Cool Communities was started in Asheville in 2016 by Beatrice Nathan and Amy Musser in an effort to empower people to make their homes and lifestyles more energy efficient.  It complements the mission of Energy Savers Network with an overall goal of decreasing carbon emissions and reducing our impact on the environment.

How Does It Work?

This program is FREE!  Workbooks are provided by the group leaders.

Groups of 4-5 households meet four times over an eight-week period with an “Energy-Coach” or knowledgeable community member

Each family works their way through the Empowerment Institute’s Low Carbon Diet Workbook to create a personalized energy efficiency plan to reduce energy use by 25% or by 5000lbs of carbon emissions.

It’s fun, empowering and builds stronger, more efficient communities!
